How to Collect Payments by Text with Text-to-Pay in Unlimited Digital Marketing
Sometimes the fastest way to get paid is to meet your customer where they already are — their text messages. With Text-to-Pay in Unlimited Digital Marketing, you can send a secure, pay-ready link straight from an SMS conversation and let your customer check out in a few taps. No website, no separate invoice, no back-and-forth.
This tutorial covers what Text-to-Pay links are, what you need to have set up first, and exactly how to send one from a conversation.
What Are Text-to-Pay Links?
Text-to-Pay links are secure payment requests you send by SMS from inside a conversation. Each one generates a checkout link your customer can open and pay in just a few taps.
Because the request lives right in the contact's message thread, payment activity stays tied to the conversation — making follow-up and tracking effortless. The result is less friction for your customer and faster collection for you.
Key Benefits
Faster collection. Send a pay-ready link from any SMS thread. Fewer steps for the customer means quicker conversions for you.
On-brand checkout. Customize the payment page so it matches your brand's look and feel.
Flexible pricing. Apply discounts and tax at the moment you send, so the link reflects the exact deal you agreed on.
Due dates. Set a due date on the link to encourage timely payment and set clear expectations.
Before You Start: Prerequisites
Checking these first prevents the most common setup snags and makes sure your links send and process correctly. You'll need:
An active Unlimited Digital Marketing Payments (Stripe) connection in the sub-account.
An active phone number in the sub-account.
At least one active product.
How to Send a Text-to-Pay Link from Conversations
Open the conversation. Go to Conversations and open the thread with the contact you want to bill.
Choose SMS. In the channel picker at the message box, select SMS.
Click Request Payment. Select the Request Payment ($) icon below the text editor.
Build the request. In the Request payment modal, choose the product (or item) and confirm the price. Add a discount and/or tax if needed, set a due date, and choose between Test and Live mode — use Test for non-production checks. Click Preview to review the checkout experience, or Copy link & Mark as sent.
Send it. Click Send to deliver the link. When the customer opens it, they'll see your branded checkout page, ready for payment.
Tip: The checkout page is fully customizable — you can match it to your brand colors and style so the experience feels seamless from text to payment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a website to use Text-to-Pay? No. The whole point of Text-to-Pay is to collect payment directly through SMS — the link handles checkout, so no website is required.
What's the difference between Test and Live mode? Test mode lets you run a checkout without processing a real charge, which is useful for confirming the link works as expected before billing a customer. Live mode processes an actual payment. Always switch to Live when you're ready to collect for real.
Can I apply a discount or tax to a single link? Yes. You set the discount and/or tax at send time inside the Request payment modal, so each link can reflect the exact terms of that specific deal.
What happens when I set a due date? A due date signals when payment is expected and helps encourage your customer to pay promptly. It's a simple way to manage expectations and keep collection on track.
Where does the payment activity show up? Because the link is sent from within the conversation, the payment request stays tied to that contact's thread — making it easy to follow up and keep a clear record of what was requested and when.

Text-to-Pay turns any SMS conversation into a checkout opportunity, cutting the steps between "I'll take it" and "paid." Make sure your Payments connection, phone number, and at least one product are active, then send your first link right from Conversations.
